Program. Assessment is required if no ACT scores are reported.

Support Services Available:

Student Support Services is a federally funded grant project which helps eligible students stay in college and graduate. The project offers counseling, tutoring, a college survival skills orientation course, career exploration, transfer assistance, and cultural awareness.

Recipients of these services must be citizens or legal residents of the United States who are currently enrolled in a credit program. Participants must meet at least one of the following eligibility requirements: first generation students, low income, and/or physically handicapped/learning disability.

To assist students needing supportive services, a Special Needs Coordinator is located in the Counseling Center.
  · This person coordinates supportive services for special populations (i.e., students with disabilities, disadvantaged, displaced homemakers, adult training/retraining).
· The Special Needs Coordinator also acts as a liaison and resource among the local education agencies, the area education agency, the community college, and the community human services providers in the serving of special populations.
Students requiring accommodation or adaptations should contact the Special Needs Coordinator as soon as possible to allow for needed arrangements. The NIACC campus and the dormitories are accessible to students with disabilities.

There is another program which has started: Project Enrich. Students who wish to attend college, but do not have the academic ability, will be placed in this program. Emphasis is on goal setting, basic skills, job shadowing, and on-the-job training.
