Descriptor: Students at Northeast Iowa Community College may choose courses, degrees, diplomas, or certificates designed to assist them in achieving their educational objectives. These objectives may include a review of basic skills, exploration of courses to assist in career decisions, transfer to another college/university, entry into successful employment, improvement of skills for present job, and personal interest or self improvement. A wide variety of options are offered with courses at the Calmar Campus, Peosta Campus, Dubuque Downtown Center, and off-campus sites. Prerequisites to Admission: The college admits any person who has a high school diploma or equivalent and can benefit from a program of study. Admission to the college, however, does not mean admission to all courses or majors. Students may be required to take preparatory work prior to entering college classes. The college may require a person to provide a medical statement from a physician for admission to a specific major or when it is otherwise in the best interest of the student and/or the college. Campus Programs Available: Associate in Arts Degree (AA) The Associate in Arts Degree program provides a course of study which, if satisfactorily completed, will transfer to most colleges and universities. It is the equivalent of the first two years of a bachelor's degree program in numerous institutions. Associate in Science Degree (AS) The Associate in Science Degree is primarily designed to enable students to transfer their work to a four-year college or university for the purpose of earning a baccalaureate degree. This degree program also offers opportunities for personal enrichment of career enhancement and provides a foundation in mathematics and science designed for transfer in a prescribed area of specialization. Associate in Science/Career Option (ASCO) Career Option programs are designed to provide students with the opportunities to transfer to a four-year institution or to enter immediate employment. The curriculum offers a strong background in general education as well as career-oriented courses. Technical Degrees A technical education offers all students the opportunity and encouragement to become competent, responsible, individuals with the ability to adapt to a changing workplace and to understand the importance of life-long learning. Associate in Applied Science Degree (AAS) Associate in Applied Science programs are designed to prepare students for immediate employment in a career field while maintaining the opportunity for further education. While AAS programs stress technical preparation, general education courses complement the technical focus. Diploma Programs Vocational programs prepare students for entry employment and are designed with the assistance of advisory committees to ensure that graduates meet employment requirements. Certificates Sequences A Certificate Sequence is an organized, sharply-focused array of courses that provide training in a specific occupational field. Certificate sequences can be either pre-designed or individualized. |
