What is the Job Corps? The Job Corps is a youth training program offered at no cost whatsoever to 16-21 year old applicants who are legal residents of the United States. Job Corps is funded by the U.S. Department of Labor and in Denison, operated by MTC Corporation. Established by Congress in 1965, there are now over 100 Job Corps Centers helping needy young men and women throughout the country. This unique program has just one objective-to prepare enrollees with the skills necessary to quality for, and be placed in, a good paying job. This is done by a well-organized program that provides vocational training to suite almost every interest in addition to practical academic education and a variety of helpful support services. More advanced education is available to those with the ability and desire. The education and training process here allows you to move at your own pace. No grades. No homework. You set your own speed! Need a high school diploma or GED? You can do this too at Job Corps. What do you get? You get free room and board, free medical and dental care, clothes for work and for school, plus much good training and education to name just some of the benefits. Residential living in a dormitory setting, tasty and wholesome meals, plus a wide variety of sports and leisure-time activities are important features of the Job Corps. You can get a high school diploma or a GED from the Job Corps. Each enrollee also receives a personal spending allowance of $40 to $100 per month, depending on program progress. And another $75 to $100 a month goes into a government savings fund which you'll receive after you leave the program with at least a 6-months stay. Job Corps Life: It takes anywhere from 8 to 24 months for a student to complete the Job Corps Program, depending on personal progress and individual training requirements. You can be a resident or non-resident enrollee, living on campus or at home. Choose what's best for you. Learn at your own pace. There's no competition-nobody fails! During this time there will be reasonable rules and regulations which exist for everyone's benefit. You'll learn to get along with others and will probably make many new friends. You'll also do a lot of growing up with the support and guidance of a staff totally interested in you. Do your best in Job Corps and you can expect no less than a great time while here and a solid future afterwards. Job Corps can even help you go to college! When and how can I start? Over two million young men and women are working today after receiving their education and training at Job Corps. Successful graduates are everywhere. Self-respect and a future worth looking forward to have been their rewards. All that is expected of you is that you make a sincere effort.
